I will now become the Peter Gammons of Womens Beach Volleyball

Four years ago I was channel flipping and came across this:

Naturally I stuck around for a bit because it was free and I didn't have any pay channels then. Well if you haven't watched it, it turns out womens beach volleyball is actually pretty damned good. Once you get over the hilariously small bikinis there's actually a lot to like here.

Americans Misty May-Treanor and Kelly Walsh are currently the best pairing in the world and they are sexy girls no doubt. Not super hot in a Jessica Biel kind of way, but they're incredibly toned and really athletic(did I mention they're wearing next to nothing most of the time?). Misty May is the shorter of the two at 5'9. In 2001 she held try outs to try and find a new partner after several years of floundering despite being considered the best defensive player in the world. Enter 6'3 Kerri "Six Feet of Sunshine" Walsh. It was a perfect pairing that would prove literally unbeatable. Walsh's height and blocking ability perfectly complemented May's smothering defense allowing them to rely less on a serve and more on set shots. The result is a 103 match and counting win streak and one (soon to be two) gold medals.

I know nothing about womens beach volleyball.

And that's whats so damned amazing about the Olympics. I haven't even thought of the sport in four years yet in the course of two weeks I've become the Peter Gammons of womens beach volleyball. These sports, while bizarre and often ridiculous (rhythmic gymnastics anyone?) are so easily digestible that any of us can become experts in no time. At this point, I'm borderline obsessed.

I'm the Bill Simmons of Swimming- "Michael Phelps dominance reminds me of Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl for NES. Totally dominant. And is it me or were the French like The Cobra Kai in the mens 200m relay??? I kept waiting for Alain Bernard to shout 'put em in a body bag. I'm making a new face. It's the Alain Bernard face.'"

I'm the Dan Shaughnessy of Gymnastics-"The curse of Bela Karolyi continues for the Americans and Winchester resident Alicia Sacramone is it's latest victim. If control over the US National team hadn't been taken from him in 2000, would Sacramone have nailed her vault onto the balance beam Wednesday night? Would Chellsie Memmel have persevered through her injury more like Kerri Strug in 2000 and led the team to gold? "

Hell I've even found myself watching women's basketball. That's pretty amazing.

Well, gotta go. The mens individual 200 medley is coming up.
